To ensure TIPO offers more comprehensive digital services that better align with global trends, the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office has started providing online certificates for patents and trademarks.
E-certificates for patents and trademarks registration
In order to achieve the sustainable development goals of sustainable energy and carbon emission reduction, the paperless procedure will make it easier for rights holders to obtain and maintain their certificates and save the expense of printing and mailing paper copies.
TIPO will not require all applicants to use online certificates in the interests of their convenience. When obtaining their patent certificate or paying the registration fees for a trademark, the applicant has the option of a paper or an online certificate. Those who choose to obtain an online certificate may request a print copy later on if they need one, according to TIPO.
Applicants can obtain the online certificate by submitting their verification code at the designated site within six months of getting notice from TIPO that their certificate has been granted. Via the E-SET e-delivery system, applicants may also get their certificates online. Following that, applicants may obtain their online certificates under “My Applications” on the e-portal using their digital certificates.
Online certificates from TIPO will be made available in PDF formats for easy circulation. The online certificates will include anti-counterfeiting features including digital signatures, verification, and a QR code. To quickly verify the legitimacy of their patent certificates and obtain any updates to the status of their rights, right holders can upload digital copies of their certificates onto TIPO’s system or scan the QR codes.
