Trademark Renewal means extending the term period of trademark registration by filing TM-12 with the prescribed fee. Application shall be made by either the registered owner of the trademark or his authorized agent.
Documents required for filing an application for renewal of Trademark:
- Copy of Registration Certificate
- Power of attorney (simply signed),
- ID & Address Proof of the Applicant
- Copy of TM-12
To establish whether a trademark application filed in Sri Lanka may be awarded protection, it is assessed on absolute and relative grounds. Within 2 months of receiving the examination report, the response to the objections shall be filed, with a maximum extension of 3 months. When the trademark office accepts the application, it is sent for translation to the local language and subsequently published in the trademarks journal and is open to opposition for a period of 3 months from the date of publication. This opposition period can be extended by another two months.
